A brighton Stay with character
The Oriental building has been part of Brighton’s cultural life for decades. In the 1980s the venue famously housed the Brighton Belle nightclub, an early platform for local DJs including Norman Cook, later known worldwide as Fatboy Slim.
In the early 1990s it became the Beacon Royal Hotel — one of Brighton’s most celebrated LGBTQ+ venues and a welcoming space that contributed to the city’s reputation for openness and creativity.
Today the building begins a new chapter, offering stylish studio rooms for visitors who want to stay somewhere with a story.
Location
The Oriental is a stone’s throw away from the seafront, in between the Bandstand and the West Pier. Situated very close to the i360, the Brighton Centre and less than a 10 min walk to the city centre.
Directions from Brighton Rail Station:
There is a taxi rank directly in front of the main station concourse or you can also take the Number 6 bus, from outside the station. Make sure you get off at the Waitrose stop, take the first left down Montpelier Road, and then left again onto Sillwood Road. Oriental Place is then on the right.

If you are feeling particularly sprightly, you can walk from the station – just head down the hill outside the station until you reach the seafront. Turn right, and then walk past the Grand Hotel, Hilton Metropole, and the Holiday Inn – you will then see the King’s Hotel, which is at the bottom of Oriental Place. Turn right up Oriental Place, and we are halfway up the street on the right hand side.
