June’s Oriental Live

Our second monthly music night was held last week – June 2 and it was another wonderful evening.

img_1071The night started earlier at 7.45 with the lovely Kelly Barnes singing a variety of originals and covers. Ricky Gallimore then performed a few songs for us (see photo). Ricky is in a band called Stone Sun who gig alot around Brighton so check them out! Julian Alistair came to the Oriental for the first time and sang four of his own songs, including a new one. His incredibly soulful voice had the room in silence. Our receptionist and the host of the evening – Jenna Bennett was next to play with her friends Jade Moxley and Lisa Wadham and then the evening finished with Lisa Wadham and Simon Eden (who once again blew us away with their lounge versions of some classic song)

Guests, general public, friends and the staff all had a lovely night at The Oriental Bar which was also offering some scrummy cocktails.

The next evening will be Thursday 7 July 7.30-10.15 and, as always, it will be free entry.
Details of performers will be blogged so please refer to our website.

BEST OF THE BRIGHTON FESTIVAL

img_1054One of the great things about the Brighton Festival are the free events that draw all of Brighton, and the smart ones from elsewhere that know about how brilliant the festival is, out onto the streets to enjoy the fun.  Thus it was last Friday when the French street artists Droles d’Oiseaux put on a spectacular show using cars, paint and pegs.  Paraded through the streets, the white chain of cars were painted in rainbow colours before being “pegged up” to dry on the Level.  Visually stunning and great fun too it was another triumph for the Festival.  Missed it, well just make sure your here next year and don’t miss out on the fun.  Well ok, here are some photos to see what you missed.

img_1032

Other highlights of the Festival included the innovative and very clever acrobatic dance troupe Chouf Ouchouf and the Jardin Flambeau fire sculptures and installations brilliantly created by the Compagnie Carabosse in the delightful St Anns Wells Park.

So don’t miss the Festival and Fringe Festivals next year, we had some great midweek offers thisyear running too so don’t forget to check the Oriental’s website and offers page to ensure you get the best deals.
