Once again this year, May has seen the city come to life with festivals of music, entertainment and the arts.
There are still two more weekends of open houses and we here at The Oriental strongly reccomend you go and see whats going on.
Not only are there private showcases of artwork for you to check out but did you know that most of the displays are part of a trail ?
One of the most talked about this year is the Brunswick Trail. There are 13 venues involved and being in the Brunswick area, they are all stunning and unique buildings as well as being in a wonderful, historic location. This Trail invites you to enjoy the homes and works of distinctive artists from all around the world. Offering a diverse collection of displays from people living and working in this unique regency town.

The band have made a real impression on people of Brighton, London and Cambridge over the last year. The acoustic, folk five piece perform with 5 part harmonies, incredible lyrics, catchy melodies and driving rhythms that have crowds in awe. Last year they came in the top 5 “best new acts in Brighton” via the Brighton Music Awards and big things are expected of them , so all I’m going to say is check them out whilst it’s free !!

Thursday On 5 May we held our first ever music night at The Oriental Bar, called Oriental Live. The evening was a huge success with both guests, friends and people of Brighton sharing the night with us. We had three hours of acoustic music in our bar from local singer/songwriters and performers.
First up we had Lisa Wadham and Simon Eden who gave us half an hour of stunning lounge-style covers. We then had our new barman Aiden play a couple of his own songs , followed by receptionist Jenna Bennett and her friend Kelly Barnes who performed a number of duets with covers and originals mixed in.
Whilst enjoying the music, our bar was open making drinks and cocktails for the audience. It was a wonderful night and great to see so many people support it.
Our next music night shall be Thursday 2 June and we shall blog all information in the next two weeks.
For more photo’s please find The Oriental’s facebook page.
If you would like to come and stay with us to come and see this evening then please give us a call on 01273 205050 and speak to one of the team. See our website for more details of the Oriental’s Bar and opening times.
Compagne Carabosse are a french company who travel around europe staging fire displays at various landmarks.
Last weekend they came to Brighton and I went to check it out. . .
Hundreds of people headed to Ann’s Well Gardens last weekend to check out the fire display that was set up as part Brighton Festival. The whole place was lit up high and low with a variety of lanterns and small fires. There were also a number of interesting features (some bizarre and some breath-taking . . . !) , a small cafe and three or four musical acts.It was a beautiful sight that took my breath away. After exploring , I found myself spending an hour or so sitting in front of a candle-lit stage area where I watched an incredible musician play atmospheric music using a loop peddle.
The vibe of the whole evening was amazing. I strongly recommend going next year or finding one of the company’s other locations.
Here are some of my photos from the night but if you wish to see more then please click here
The Oriental Brighton is delighted to welcome Aiden di Massimo to the team as our new Barman / Mixologist. Aiden, who is also a singer-songwriter, grew up in northern Italy, but moved to England at the age of 20 to further his music career. His other passion in life is drinks and cocktails, so why not pop in to the Oriental Bar this weekend, say “Ciao”, and try Aiden’s special Amaretto Cooler for only £6.00.
Also, to celebrate the imminent arrival of summer, the Oriental is delighted to announce that the Oriental bar is now open on Wednesday and Thursday evenings from 5.00pm to 9.00pm
Our barman for the past two years has been James Jack. Having finished his degree in Graphic Design , he has now left The Oriental to concentrate on his career, if you wish to view his work or are looking for a graphic designer take a look at his website. James was always very popular with the guests and will be truly missed here , so thank you James for all your help and we wish you all the best with your future aspirations !!
